Each symbol had a sound associated with it and Jack had written down the words "Praclarush Taonas" translated into "lost in fire" in a crossword puzzle. Daniel put these two pieces together and came up with a Stargate address. Everyone hoped that this was the location of the Lost City of the Ancients. Carter input the coordinates that Daniel wrote into the SGC computer and found out that they had tried to dial it two years ago, but could not make a lock.
Daniel said that the Stargate was most likely buried, but felt strongly that they should go there based on what Jack was doing. Teal'c and Bra'tac acquired a cargo ship and they all set off for Praclarush Taonas. Onboard the cargo ship, Jack enhanced the engines to make the ship travel faster and soon they reached their destination. Praclarush Taonas was indeed buried in molten lava and had been so, according to Carter's calculations, for over a million years.
They found a bubble in the surface that appeared to have been shaped by lava that had cooled down over a dome or forcefield. When they entered the bubble, they found that they were in an outpost of some kind. Daniel, by observing the architecture of the structure, confirmed that the design was Ancient. Jack found a chair and brought up environmental controls in the outpost to make it safe for them to take off their hazmat suits. He then brought up a map of the Ancient's domain and zeroed in on Earth and declared "Terra Atlantis" when he pointed out Antarctica.
The configuration of the continents on the map indicated that the map was 30 million years old, before Antarctica had drifted to the southern pole and frozen over. Jack soon answered their question by retrieving a power supply from the base of the computer chair.
Upon returning to Earth, they went to Antarctica where Jack knew the outpost to be located and gained entry. Jack replaced the depleted power supply in the Antarctic outpost chair's base, identical to that of Praclarush Taonas, and activated an extremely powerful weapon that destroyed Anubis' fleet of over 30 vessels in Earth's orbit. Jack was soon on the verge of death with all of the energy he had expended to activate the powerful weapon and harbor the Ancient knowledge.
He had pointed out a stasis chamber when they entered the outpost and Daniel instructed Carter and Teal'c to place Jack in that chamber to save his life. They felt that they could locate the Asgard who could save Jack as they had before when he had taken the first Ancient download. After making sure Jack was safely placed in stasis, Daniel realized that the Antarctic outpost was too small to meet the description of the Lost City.
They had not found the Lost City of the Ancients, but had found the weapons they needed to prevent Anubis from destroying Earth. The Lost City and its powerful weapons were still "out there" somewhere and they still needed to find them.
Daniel returned to the SGC in order to pack up reference materials so that he could go back to Antarctica and help translate the records there, hoping to find some way to revive Jack and unload the knowledge. Elizabeth Weir, the civilian who replaced General Hammond as leader of the SGC since the new Presidential administration, told him he could not go because the various nations involved in the Antarctic Treaty were not in agreement of how the outpost should be administered and by whom.
The Treaty specifically states that no military outposts could be placed there by any of the countries because Antarctica was to be treated as a place for scientific research only. Carter and Teal'c, however, persuaded Dr. Weir to allow them to take the cargo ship they had used to get to Praclarush Taonas to track down the Asgard near the planet Hala where they had trapped the Replicators in a time-dilation bubble 6.
Carter theorized that the Asgard were keeping a close watch on Hala because the Human Form Replicator named Fifth was very close to the device when it was activated and that soon he would be able to deactivate it. While Daniel was stuck at the SGC base awaiting the results of the negotiations for the supervision of the outpost, Carter and Teal'c headed off for Hala.
Carter's theory about the Asgard's monitoring of Hala was correct. They arrived in the area of space where the planet should have been, but were pulled into the gravitational effects of a black hole.
The Asgard had destroyed the sun of Hala in hopes that the Replicators would be destroyed along with it, but the Replicators broke free and were on their way to the Asgard's new homeworld. In order to find a way to defeat the Replicators once and for all, Thor retrieved Daniel and Jack from Earth. Jack was still in stasis and Thor asked that he be allowed to connect Jack's consciousness to his ship's computer and request that Jack use the knowledge of the Ancients to devise a weapon against the Replicators.
Jack retrieved the information from the Ancient download and designed a disruptor gun that eliminated the link the Replicators' blocks needed to function. The Asgard finally had a weapon to defeat the Replicators, but some of the Replicators escaped before the weapon was used against them on the Asgard's new homeworld. Thor removed the knowledge from Jack and successfully revived him. They would never know if Jack ever knew the location of the Lost City of the Ancients from the download because they didn't have a chance to ask him.
Carter was promoted to Lt. Colonel and given command of SG Daniel was allowed to go to Antarctica and study the Ancient outpost after Dr. Weir was successful at organizing a group of international scientists to study the outpost as well.
Daniel uncovered records of what happened to the Ancients in Antarctica. They had left some five to ten million years ago inside a great city-ship. Daniel had a few theories about why the Ancients took the city-ship away from Earth, the foremost being that they did so in order to escape the plague. The movie introduced audiences to new alien worlds and mysterious technologies, all set in the present day. Daniel Jackson. Stargate: SG-1 quickly became a big success among sci-fi fans, so it was no wonder that another spin-off was ordered for the franchise.
Stargate: Atlantis premiered in , after the end of SG-1 's seventh season, and the two shows continued to be released simultaneously. Furthermore, the Stargate was programmed to accept incoming wormholes from only Earth so that the city, and Dr. Weir, would remain safe until its rediscovery by the Atlantis Expedition. When the Atlantis expedition arrived in July , they started to explore the city until Dr.
Rodney McKay discovered that the city's Zero Point Modules were nearly depleted and that Atlantis' shield would fail, causing a massive flood. After searching Athos for safe refuge due to the inevitable shield failure, the search team eventually brought the Athosians back after a Wraith culling occurred.
When the team and refugees returned, Janus's failsafe mechanism activated and Atlantis rose to the surface just as the shield finally ran out of power and failed.
With Atlantis safe from the risk of flooding, the expedition continued to settle down and set up home for both themselves and the Athosian refugees. SGA : " Rising ". With the city's ZPMs all depleted shortly after their arrival, the expedition relied instead on their naquadah generators to power the city, these generators generating sufficient power to operate the Stargate and most of the city's default systems without having the power required to dial Earth or operate the city's defences.
The lack of defences meant that the expedition were forced to temporarily evacuate the city when it was faced with a massive storm that could have destroyed the entire city due to their inability to operate the city's shield. McKay was able to devise a solution that involved channeling the storm's lightning-strikes into the city's power grid by disabling the Grounding stations , at the cost of evacuating most of the city to another planet as the corridors would be electrified.
During this time, a Genii division led by Acastus Kolya tried to take control of Atlantis, but John Sheppard was able to defeat most of the Genii soldiers- including killing over fifty that were coming in as reinforcements by reactivating the Stargate shield- and then drive the rest away, allowing McKay to complete his plan.
Having learned of the existence of Earth , the Wraith sent three Hive ships to attack Atlantis. Aided by reinforcements from Earth- which included a Zero Point Module recently discovered in Egypt and the new ship the Daedalus - the Atlantis expedition was able to destroy the three ships, but the Wraith sent another twelve. Seeing no way of destroying them, the expedition used a cloak adapted from a Puddle Jumper , and timed a Nuclear warhead to make it appear that the city had been destroyed.
The Wraith fell for the ruse, causing them to fall into civil war as the multiple wakened hives fought for resources. The secret of Atlantis surviving is now a top priority for the expedition members, often claiming that the expedition reconnaissance teams were just the survivors of Atlantis rather than still operating from the city itself.
Colonel Samantha Carter and Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell took Dr. Rodney McKay on a mission to connect a Stargate to the Supergate back in the Milky Way, preventing its further use by the Ori, simultaneously destroying a hive-ship and an Ori warship.
Meanwhile, Dr. Daniel Jackson and Vala Mal Doran accessed the Atlantis database in the hope of discovering the location of the Sangraal , a weapon against the Ori designed by Merlin.
The ascended Lantean Morgan Le Fay , who masqueraded as the database's holographic interface, informed them where they could find the planets they heard of in Camelot that would lead them to the device, but she was stopped by the Others before she could reveal information about the device itself.
SG1 : " The Pegasus Project ". Later in the same year, after an experiment depleted the rest of the power in the city's only ZPM, living Lanteans were discovered in the void between Pegasus and the Milky Way , who subsequently reclaimed the city and forced the expedition out.
Colonel John Sheppard , Dr. Elizabeth Weir , Dr. Rodney McKay , Dr. Carson Beckett , Teyla Emmagan , and Ronon Dex launched a daring rescue mission, using the city's shield generators to emit a massive Anti-Replicator gun wave.
The expedition was then able to reclaim Atlantis, keeping one of the Zero Point Modules installed by the Asurans and sending the other two back to Earth to help with the battle against the Ori. In , after a massive pre-emptive strike on Asuras by Earth's new battlecruiser, the Apollo , the Asurans launched a retaliatory attack on Atlantis.
They sent a satellite housing a Stargate to Lantea, and after dialing in from Asuras, directed a powerful energy beam at Atlantis. Unable to evacuate by Stargate , and unable to fully dissipate the beam after submerging the city, the expedition used the Stardrive to leave Lantea. The recently discovered mobile drilling platform , located on the ocean floor gave Atlantis the power boost it needed to lift off, as the expedition only had one Zero Point Module instead of the 3 which the city was designed to use.
The shield had to be lowered so that more power could be diverted to the Stardrive for the crucial first few moments of flight. As the shield was being raised after this initial phase however the Asurans beam grazed the side of the main tower, causing serious damage to the power conduits. Because of this Atlantis dropped out of hyperspace prematurely and far from the new intended homeworld, with the city's single Zero Point Module nearly depleted, having only twenty four hours of energy left.
With the aid of a replacement ZPM, stolen in a daring raid on Asuras, the city eventually settled on M During the same year, the nine chevron address in the Atlantis database was discovered, and the Icarus Base was built in the Milky Way to research into dialing it.
This later mounted, with the help of Eli Wallace , in the successful dialing of the Destiny days after Atlantis' return to Earth. SGU : " Air, Part 1 ". He combined Wraith and Ancient technology , and managed to create a force field with similar results as a Wraith stunner , disabling anyone who attempted to access the control tower.
Ronon Dex eventually escaped from his original capture, as he was in Stargate Operations when the stun field was established. However Michael was able to overpower and render Ronon unconscious.
This distraction allowed Teyla to escape. Michael activated Atlantis' self-destruct in an attempt to draw Teyla out, but was unsuccessful. He then attempted to retreat with the DNA of Teyla's son that he had already taken vowing to clone him. In the meantime, Dr. Rodney McKay and Lt. Colonel John Sheppard planned to use a Puddle Jumper from the underwater Jumper bay , dial the Dial Home Device and to use the unstable vortex to destroy Michael's Jumper, thus rendering the stun field inactive and restoring Atlantis to its natural power.
They attempt to find a way to escape, but there is not enough time, as the ship arrives on the ice-covered planet. Radek Zelenka is called into the hallway to examine the dead alien. They take it to the infirmary, where he is to examine the body. However, when he looks for whatever was inside the suit, Zelenka finds that an EM field from the suit renders an Ancient scanner useless. He tries to cut into the suit, but barely leaves a mark before the saw's blade dulls out. He gets a bigger blade and cuts into the neck, which is weaker than the rest.
He manages to cut through it, but as this happens, Sheppard notices a flashing light. The team quickly evacuates, just before the suit blows up, which wipes out any chance of identifying the alien race.
McKay and Jackson enter a lab with an Ancient design. They realize that it must be another one of Janus' labs. The aliens tell McKay to activate a device. After doing some research in the computer terminals located in the room, Dr. McKay realizes that it is a very advanced piece of Ancient technology , the "end game machine", which could ultimately stop the Wraith once and for all.
The device is meant to disrupt the exact subspace frequencies associated with Wraith hyperdrive systems, causing any Wraith ship that attempts to enter a hyperspace window to be destroyed. Apparently the technology had a serious unforeseeable side effect, so Janus abandoned the research and the project. After Jackson and McKay try to explain all this to the aliens, they are given an ultimatum: either they set up and activate the device, or Dr.
Jackson will be killed. McKay quickly capitulates and the alien leaves them temporarily. Zelenka thinks that he has found a way to track Jackson and McKay, but has to use a new form of math to backtrack where the other end of the transmission is. He believes they are on M6H , a planet with no Stargate , meaning it is off the grid.
Atlantis is out of communications range with the Daedalus , so they have to rescue them another way. Jackson realizes that the aliens are possibly using the suit to protect themselves, and they must be hiding their true identities. McKay works on activating the device, and after an unknown amount of time, manages to reactivate it, but without discovering what the side effect is.
After about 10 minutes of operation, they still haven't seen any problem, but McKay finally deciphers a log entry explaining it. Jackson asks if they're in danger, but McKay says they're fine, it's the rest of the galaxy that's in danger. He says they have to shut the device down immediately and starts to do so.
A group of aliens enter and point weapons at them. They attempt to warn the aliens, since the side effect is very serious, but are stunned before they can explain, leaving the device still running. At roughly the same time, a ship in "Todd's" fleet hails the Daedalus , and "Todd" speaks with them privately. After inquiry from Woolsey and Colonel Steven Caldwell , "Todd" informs them that two of his ships must depart for the moment, since a rival hive is attacking one of the Wraith outposts.
They see the cruisers depart and enter the hyperspace windows. However, both Wraith cruisers are destroyed once they enter hyperspace. Suspecting an ambush, an angered "Todd" accused them of obtaining the " Attero device ". He pulls two energy rods from his coat sleeves and puts them together, creating an energy pulse that knocks everyone on the bridge unconscious. Ronon, walking the halls of one of the upper decks, sees the Wraith soldiers beam aboard and take cover.
He sees Dr. Keller and insists that they head to the ship armory, since the Wraith are attacking the ship. However, this proves difficult, since "Todd" manages to lock down the ship, limiting the movements of every Human on board. Atlantis' Stargate explodes. However, after Chuck dials the Gate, it begins to go critical. They have seconds until the Gate will detonate, which will result in an explosion equivalent to a dozen Nuclear warheads. Sheppard orders the city's shield to encompass the Gate.
The Gate explodes, causing a blinding flash.
