You are best to get your ECU modified and dyno tuned if you have lots of mods and the factory ECU settings are slowing you down. Otherwise - leave it alone - Honda know what they are doing He got kw at the wheels with just a pod filter - standard everything else. His car is a gen2 B16A2 so it will get more power, and the ECU chip plus dyno tuning usually cost a lot. What mods have you done so far? If you haven't done the simple filter and exhaust to let her breathe do that.
Next I would do all the little things lots of people overlook. Good leads big is not always better , good ignition coil, good plugs, good oil and filter and a good service. It is amazing how much power can be lost when not maintaining these things too a tee. Also run her on Synergy 98 ron fuel from Mobil if possible at all times.
Some people may argue "it costs more", but higher octane gets you more kilometres to the litre and gives you better performance, while ensuring no damage is done running lower octane levels, so it works out cheaper. Remember Japans low octane fuel is 98 octane so that is what these cars are built and tuned to run on. Then there are options like bigger cams B16A2 or B16B specs , enlarged throttle bodies, higher compression heads and pistons and more Its not until you start changing these things that the ECU will need modifying as the factory ECU is very hard to beat as we all know.
But if you've swapped the internal engine components for higher compression and other mods that Project Jetta mentioned above, I suppose wouldn't it be cheaper to run the engine on factory Type R ECU, rather than gettting your ECU re-written and tuned?
Sorry im probably confusing you. We refer to the facelift model of the DA6 Integra as the "gen2". Effectively it is the second generation of the second generation Integra Confusing enough? The "first generation" was - model DA6's which have B16A1's factory hp version , and the "second generation" was - DA6 models which have B16A2's factory hp and lotsa other differences.
Im not sure if im allowed to tell you exactly how much it cost, but heres the story. When he got the chip from gizzmo we raced again and it had markedly slowed him down!
They then proposed that gen-2 allow them to use his car as a test bed to develop a new ECU program for the B16A2, and therefore recieve a custom made chip for his car at a much discounted cost.
And he got a launch control module, and had it installed too. It cost him less than it would cost you for the ECU chip and the launch control module alone, before you paid for any dyno tuning and instillation. Not too bad eh? But remember they used his car to develop a chip for all B16A2's, so they made a lot of money out of the information his car provided. All in all a good outcome for everyone If gen-2 gets his exhaust fitted it will cost him the same as everyone else to get it re dyno tuned When you get an ECU re-written and dyno tuned, it may cost more, but you are getting a fuel and ignition program specific to your car with your mods.
This is the only way to achieve optimum performace on your car. If you are going to spend the money you might as well do the thing right i say :D. You can post now and register later. If you have an account, sign in now to post with your account.

Different ECU's work better for different set ups. If you have basic internals and a few bolt on's I am certain that the power band is flat or diving down at rpm's A different ECU will not give a basic set up anything worth doing. If you can rev that high So you could have a bad set up robbing power if you have basic mod's. If I was you I would start taking stuff apart or take it somewhere so they can check. Sounds liek something is wrong if another B16 in the same shell walked all over you.
You can also do a leak down test JPG Click to expand The compression reading 's are up to debate in my opinion.
Some say stupid 's yes I said it like across the board. And many others think these guys who swear by some number aren't doing the test right. I have always been told somewhere in the range is good. Never the less So would be perfectly nice.
